June 25, 2006, Championship Scoring for Oswego Tag Class

This event was a combined event for both the Oswego Summer Series racers and the Rotax RM-1 Challenge Series. The local racers, the ones we score in the TAG class, ran with the RM-1 racers. Just to make life more interesting, the RM-1 series ran a double feature, that is, each class ran in two feature races on June 25th. So while all our normal non-TAG classes ran a single feature, our TAG racers ran in two features. Which raises the question, how should the TAG class be scored for this event?

Here is how it's done. First, for each of the Rotax features, only the Oswego regulars are considered. This gives:

Oswego Racers Finishing Order
Feature 1Feature 2
Scott BartellJeff Gallup
Jeff GallupMike Cook
Mike CookScott Bartell
Philip StoddartPhilip Stoddart
Steve GioiaSteve Gioia

Now, these two features are combined into a single result. Jeff Gallup did the best overall, taking a 1st and 2nd. Scott Bartell is next, with a 1st and 3rd. Then Mike Cook comes in with a 2nd and 3rd, followed by Phil with two 4th's and Steve with two 5th's.

Now, this leads to the creation of a "phantom" TAG race (that didn't actually take place!) scored like this:

Jeff Gallup
Scott Bartell
Mike Cook
Philip Stoddart
Steve Gioia

That race appears in the results for the 25th, and it's the championship points for that race that count towards the Oswego Summer Series.
